Myth 1 - Implants are painful

Modern Implant surgery is not anymore uncomfortable then other Dental Procedures. In fact, patients often report very little discomfort at all. The bone itself has very few nerve endings.

Myth 2 - Implants take 12 months to completely be restored

Many years ago most surgeons placed implants and then covered them up with gum tissue for 6-9 months. After that there were a series of steps of uncovering and restoring that caused this 12 month cycle. Today that is no longer the case. In fact most implants can be placed in *Immediate Function the day of surgery. If that is not possible it usually only takes 3 months to create a final crown. Of course there may be certain situations where this cannot be accomplished and your surgeon will discuss these at the time of your consult.

Myth 3 - Implants are really expensive

Implants are an investment in your overall health and well being. In the case of a single implant the costs are very comparable to a three unit bridge. In the case of a Denture, when you consider the dramatic change in life style and nutrition, the return on your investment is significant.

Myth 4 - Implants are experimental

Totally untrue. Dental implants have been cleared by the FDA for decades. The first patient to receive a dental implant did so in 1965. He lived well into his 80’s and so did his implant. Over 1.3 million implants are placed in patients every year in the US alone.
